Renaissance Learning Data Privacy Litigation

Reisberg v. Renaissance Learning, Inc., Civ. No. 8:25-cv-01379 (C.D. Cal)

On September 25, 2025, Plaintiffs K-12 students filed an amended complaint Renaissance Learning, Inc., which markets products to schools such as Star Assessments, Accelerated Reader, Nearpod, Fastbridge, and Freckle, alleging that Renaissance generates, collects, uses, and shares information about them without their consent.

Plaintiffs assert claims under

  1. the Federal Wiretap Act,

  2. the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA),

  3. the California Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act (CDAFA),

  4. California’s Unfair Competition Law (UCL)

  5. common law invasion of privacy for intrusion upon seclusion,

  6. common law unjust enrichment, and

  7. negligence

  8. Wisconsin Electronic Surveillance Control Law

  9. Wisconsin’s Deceptive Trade Practices Act
